The Lord’s Supper
Description
On the evening before his death, Christ gathered with his disciples for the Last Supper. The Jews were celebrating a special festival at that time, commemorating the liberation of the Israelites from slavery and their exodus from Egypt. Christ, knowing that his hour had come, was filled with sorrow and sadness. Toward the end of the meal he stood up, took bread and wine, lifted them to heaven, and asked the Father for his blessing. The lectures in this issue of The Spiritual World give insight into the external circumstances of the Last Supper and illuminate its spiritual meaning. They explain the significance that Christ’s blessing of bread and wine has for humankind, and what it means to fulfill his request to celebrate this love feast in remembrance of him – an act of commemoration that shall be preserved for all time.
